Union gunners supporting this gun would eventually be assailed from three sides on Gettysburg's second day. The field in which it stands is called "the Wheat Field". Before the battle it was full of near ripe grain. After the second day, it would feature some of the bloodiest fighting, change hands numerous times and see the wheat pressed low under the bodies of both the Gray and the Blue.
